The waters in the Andes Mountains of Chile and Argentina have produced trophy catches year after year, with records including
  • Rainbow Trout over 30"

  • Brown Trout over 30"

  • Atlantic Salmon over 20 lbs

The season runs from November 15 through April 15. During these summer months, the weather is very moderate,  the days are long, and the fish are plentiful ... brown and rainbow trout are abundant throughout this time of year.

We have a diversified selection of rivers, lakes and spring creeks. Normally we fish all these and in different areas so as to give the angler a broader experience.  We fish the Rio Puelo on the Chile/Argentina border, Alerces Park in Argentina and the Rio Yelcho in Chile.  All areas have very high catch rates and the natural surroundings are extremely beautiful.

We fish by wading, drifting and casting to the fish we  see.  Most of the time we use dry flies.  The fish are mostly rainbows, brown trout and Atlantic salmon (when in season). The average size brown and rainbow trout fish are 18-21 inches.   All the fish are wild and very strong .

Weather  Note   Since Chile as well as Argentina are in the southern hemisphere, the seasons and temperatures are the exact opposite of the seasons and temperatures in Northern Europe.  Being in the sun can be very intense, so please take plenty of sun screen on your trip.

Trout Fishing  in Patagonia, Argentina and Chile, runs from November 15 through April 15. During these summer months, the weather is very moderate, the days are long, and the fish are plentiful ... brown, rainbow, and brook trout are abundant throughout this time of year.

History of Fishing in Argentina.  There were early attempts to introduce trout to Argentina by immigrants who were owners or supervisors of the big estancias in southern Patagonia. One story has it, that a certain ranch boss missed his native land and the fishing. Although he had beautiful waters around him there were no fish in them. So he decided to import eggs and that is how the sea run browns got its start in Patagonia. Official records say that it was not until 1904 that the first planting of trout took place with good results. The first planting were composed of brook, lake trout and landlocked salmon all coming from New York, USA. They were planted in lake Nahuel Huapi, Traful, Espejo and Gutierrez. More importation of fish eggs continued coming from the US, England and Germany with the same species and additionally adding rainbows, browns, Atlantic salmon and some species of Pacific salmon.

Angling Today   In many bodies of water the average fish is eighteen to twenty-two inches and can be difficult to catch a smaller fish. In many streams you will find abundant amounts of fish ranging from the size of your wet fly to fourteen inches.  Oh, the big ones are out there too, but as all anglers know, the big ones are big because they know what to eat and what not to eat.

Argentina covers over 1,000,000 square miles, an area larger and as diversified in climate, vegetation, and topography as the west coast of the United States. The country has over 36,000,000 people with Roman Catholicism as the main religion. The borders are defined by the Andes Mountains and Chile to the west, the Atlantic Ocean by the east, and the borders of Uruguay, Brazil, Bolivia, and Brazil to the north.
The climate ranges from cold and low temperatures in the south and the Andes Mountains to dry and hot in parts of the north with moderate temperatures near central part of Argentina by the Atlantic Ocean. Vegetation varies from dry and arid to forests of giant cedar and laurel trees up in the Andes Mountains from the 1500 to 7000 foot elevation. The country's topography is very diversified. The Andes Mountains that stretch along the border of Chile have mountain peaks with elevations of over 20,000 feet that are covered with ice fields and glaciers. The Pampas and parts of Patagonia are flat with numerous rivers flowing from the Andes Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean.

Culture  The heavy immigration of Europeans to the country in the late nineteenth to the twentieth century produced a heavy concentration of people of Spanish, Italian, French, German, Eastern European and British ancestry. Also in the immigration were Japanese, Syrians and Lebanese. With the immigration, the native Indians and the descendents of black slaves, Argentina produced a diversified culture. This culture melded together to produce a country that is rich in history, alive with dance and diverse in a language that is primarily Spanish but is composed of words from the many languages that were initially introduced to this country.

Chile is located on the western side of South America and covers over 290,000 square miles. It is 2700 miles long with the average width of 110 miles. The length of Chile if placed in the northern hemisphere would stretch from the northern tip of Newfoundland in Canada to the southern tip of Florida and Cuba. The borders are defined by the Pacific Ocean to the west, Argentina by the east, and Bolivia and Peru to the north. The country has over 12,000,000 people with Roman Catholicism as the main religion.
As Argentina, the climate, vegetation, and topography is as diversified as Europe. The climate ranges from cold and low temperatures in the south and in the Andes Mountains to dry and hot in parts of the north with moderate tempera

The Fly Fishing   The lower part of the country in the lake district and Patagonia region produces great trout fishing. With the introduction of salmon, brook, brown and rainbow trout in the early part of the 20th century, trout has not only flourished but have become a world renown sport fishing region. The absence of predators, the large insect population in the waters and the cold clear rivers and lakes produced great fly fishing.
